Con el propósito de reducir la intermediación, mediante la venta asociativa directa al precio y peso justos, el Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) construyó en la provincia de Loja siete centros de acopio de maíz para apoyar a pequeños y medianos productores de la provincia de Loja.
Hasta el momento son 778 familias las beneficiadas de manera directa. A través de los centros de acopio de maíz, en 2018 se generaron ventas del grano por 1.433.168,92 dólares.
Santiago González, técnico del MAG, manifestó que la provincia de Loja tiene ocho centros de acopio, de los cuales siete se encuentran operativos en los cantones Zapotillo, Pindal, Celica, Puyango Paltas y Chaguarpamba, cada uno equipado con infraestructura que da el servicio de determinación de humedad e impurezas, pesaje, limpieza, secado y almacenamiento del grano.
Para asegurar la compra de maíz amarillo duro a socios y productores independientes a un precio y peso justos, las asociaciones responsables del manejo de centros de acopio trabajan coordinadamente con la banca pública, en este caso BanEcuador.
González precisó que en 2019 las asociaciones que administran estas infraestructuras solicitaron créditos por un valor de 194.000 dólares.
El MAG, además, capacita a los integrantes de las asociaciones en gestión contable para que calculen adecuadamente la rentabilidad de una hectárea de maíz, así como les da asesoramiento en cuanto a producción y comercialización.
